Learning objectives
Acquiring the necessary fund of engineering knowledge for spotting technical problems in the operation of the plant, identifying the critical part and defining the methodology for eliminating the cause of plant operation disturbances. Getting to know the range of equipment and methods for engineering diagnostics and developing the ability to apply them. Reviewing the position and costs of technical diagnostics in the maintenance of technical systems. Getting to know the factors that influence the design of the maintenance organization based on technical diagnostics. Practical determination and analysis of the reliability of diagnostic methods in energetics.
Learning outcomes
Having the engineering skills to analytically approach a certain plant and based on the available documentation, relevant measurement results, visual inspection, make a conclusion about the correct operation of the plant, identify deficiencies and prescribe a methodology for solving the observed defect. By mastering the study program, one acquires the necessary knowledge and skills, models, optimization procedures, familiarization with measuring equipment, settings of information systems) for application in the organization of maintenance systems of complex technical systems.
Content
Definitions, classification, stages of application and objects of technical diagnostics. Processes of changing the state and properties of energy systems. Analyzing diagnostic models, optimization according to the hierarchical importance of the energy system. Line diagnostics for energy sources, air, technical gases, steam, oil, electricity. Measurements at the plant. Overview of basic measurements to determine the operational availability of the plant. Diagnostic algorithms. Defining the plant structure and basic modules. Choice of diagnostic methods and techniques. Specifying diagnostic parameters. Choice of diagnostic equipment. Order of examination. Examination mode. Preliminary examinations. Locating the focus of the problem. Signing the rehabilitation program. Realization of service requests. Verification. Checking the geometry of the elements. IBR diagnostics. Vibrodiagnosis. Qualitative and quantitative analyzes of fluids and materials. Intelligent and expert systems in energetics.
Teaching Methods
Lectures in written and partially electronic form, auditory exercises in written form, sample examples of calculation tasks, computer support. Independent preparation and presentation of the seminar paper. As part of the course, the student will learn about the application of technical diagnostic methods in laboratory conditions and in the field, through the organization of a visit to an industrial system.

Evaluation and grading
For the selected topic, the student should prepare and defend a project related to the selection and application of technical diagnostic methods for a specific energy plant. Colloquiums are held in the 6th and 13th weeks in the form of a written exam. Class activity is assessed by making short tests on the content of the class at the end of some classes. The final exam refers only to theoretical questions.
