Learning objectives
Students will gain knowledge in this course and learn more about the work of European Union institutions (political, financial and legal) with their organization, structure and competencies. The subject also includes common policies within which the European Union makes joint decisions on various issues. Knowledge of a number of common policies, the responsibilities of the institutions and the functioning of the European Union's system will enable students to be better prepared for the integration processes that are yet to come to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Learning outcomes
This subject gives a significant contribution to the overall picture of the functioning of the European Union's political system. Students will acquire knowledge and be able to understand the nature of the European integration process, contemporary challenges in the EU, the institutional system of the EU as well as common policies in which many difficult decisions are made.
Content
Theories of European integration: Federalism, Neofunctionalism, Theories of intergovernmental cooperation (intergovernmentalism), Institutionalism, Rational choice, Public choice; European Parliament; Council of the European Union; European Council; The European Commission; European Court of Justice, General Court, Court of Auditors; European Central Bank, European Investment Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development; EU budget; European Ombudsman, Agencies, Interest Groups (lobbying in the European Union); Common policies of the European Union: customs, trade, common agricultural policy, competition policy, industrial policy, European monetary policy, foreign trade, tax policy, Union budget, regional policy, social policy, internal and external policy of the Union, environmental protection policy, fishing , energy, transport, biotechnology, education and professional training, research and technological development; Crises in the European Union; European Union enlargement policy, the Western Balkans and the European Union; Regional cooperation among the countries of the Western Balkans; The future of European integration.
Teaching Methods
Teaching is carried out through lectures on the content of the subject, discussion of issues from the processed matter, reading and analysis of the given materials, problem discussions and the presentation of seminar papers at the exercises.
