Workshop on developing an action plan in the field of bioeconomy

A workshop focusing on the development of an action plan for research in the field of bioeconomy was held on 12 February 2026 at the Rectorate of the University of Banja Luka, as part of the international Horizon Europe project “BEAMING”.

The event brought together representatives of the academic community, public institutions, the business sector and civil society organisations, with the aim of strengthening cooperation and defining priorities in the field of bioeconomy.

The workshop was opened by the vice-rector for research and development of the University of Banja Luka, prof. Aleksandar Ostojić, PhD, who welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of joint action and a strategic approach to the development of bioeconomy.

Prof. Željko Vaško, PhD, from the Faculty of Agriculture and prof. Dragan Čomić, PhD, from the Faculty of Forestry presented the objectives and tasks of the workshop and guided participants through a comprehensive SWOT and TOWS analysis. In the following session, participants focused on defining SMART objectives, leading to concrete and measurable proposals for activities aimed at improving cooperation among key stakeholders.

In the final part of the workshop, assist. prof. Nemanja Jalić, PhD, from the Faculty of Agriculture presented the criteria and alternative inputs for AHP analysis, an important step in the process of setting institutional priorities in the field of bioeconomy.

The ,,BEAMING” project is funded through the European Union’s research and innovation programme Horizon Europe, and aims to enhance excellence and encourage innovation in the field of bioeconomy.
