Symposium on climate risks – call for papers
Science and developmentUniversity of Banja LukaGeneralThe Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Banja Luka and the Republic of Srpska Academy of Arts, in cooperation with the Research-Transfer Center “Sustainability and Climate Change Management” at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, organize an international symposium „Addressing Climate Risks and Challenges in Eastern Europe“.
The event will take place on September 23-24, 2026, in Banja Luka.
The goal of the symposium is to encorage a collaborative dialogue among the scientists, experts and donors, with the emphasis on the development of practical solutions for mitigating climate change in the region.
The topics of the symposium are:
- Cross-border water management and drought resilience
- Forest management and a double threat of pests and forest fires
- Climate-smart agriculture and land preservation
- Just transition in coal-dependent regions
- Resilience of the Soviet-era infrastructure
- Flood risk in the Balkans and managing the flash floods
- Carpathian Mountains as a climate refuge and a center of biodiversity
- Urban heat-islands and public health in Eastern European cities
- Transition financing: access to funds of the EU Green Agreement and international climate financing
- Regional energy security through integration of renewable sources
- Climate trends, extremes, and projections
The deadline for Abstract submission is 30 April, and for the complete paper 30 September 2026. The Abstracts are submitted online via the application system available at the following link. The official language of the event is English, and the participation fee is 295 EUR.
Accepted papers may be published in the book „Addressing Climate Risks and Challenges in Eastern Europe“ issued by Springer Nature as part of the series of Climate Change Management, the leading reviewed series of books dedicated to climate change.
