The Faculty of Medicine marks its 47th anniversary

The anniversary ceremony marking 47 years of successful work and development of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Banja Luka was held on 15 November 2025 at the “Banski dvor” Cultural Centre, attended by numerous dignitaries, professors, students and friends of this higher education institution.

At the event, diplomas were awarded to graduates who successfully completed their studies at this faculty.

The Rector of the University of Banja Luka, prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, congratulated them on the important anniversary and emphasised that the Faculty of Medicine remains one of the strongest pillars of the University.

“It is our most active faculty. If we observe the figures, the Faculty of Medicine publishes between 30 and 40 per cent of the University’s scientific publications. They also have the largest number of new PhDs; of the total of 28 we promoted this year, as many as 14 are from the Faculty of Medicine,” the Rector Gajanin stressed.

The Dean of the Faculty, prof. Ranko Škrbić, PhD, said that this ceremony is the pinnacle of a successful year in which a large number of students obtained their degrees.

“This year we have 168 students to whom we awarded diplomas. This is an opportunity to celebrate this day with our guests and the families of the graduates and to draw attention to what we have done in the previous period. Our wish is to be one of the best faculties in the region,” Škrbić said.

The student of the year, Katarina Talić, says that the recognition is a great motivation for further professional development.

“It encourages me to continue giving my utmost in my work. I would tell everyone to follow their dreams because their efforts will pay off,” Talić emphasised.

This event, also attended by the Vice-Rectors of the University of Banja Luka, prof. Dalibor Kesić, PhD, and prof. Kristina Pantelić Babić, PhD, was an opportunity to present awards both to the best students of the generation and to distinguished individuals who, through their selfless work, contributed to the development of the Faculty of Medicine.

The formal academic ceremony once again confirmed the reputation and significance of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Banja Luka, an institution that has for nearly five decades educated staff of key importance to the health system of the Republic of Srpska.
