Symposium of Biologists and Ecologists at the UNIBL Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

The Fifth Symposium of Biologists and Ecologists of the Republic of Srpska with international participation (SBERS 2025) began on 13 November 2025 at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the University of Banja Luka and will last until 15 November.

This gathering brings together experts in biology and ecology from the Republic of Srpska and the region with the aim of exchanging knowledge, experience and strengthening cooperation. In addition to scientists, primary and secondary school teachers are also taking part, in order to improve the teaching of biology, ecology and related subjects.

On behalf of the University, those present were welcomed by the vice-rector for international and inter-university cooperation, prof. Kristina Pantelić Babić, PhD, who emphasised that this event continues the longstanding tradition of scientific work and the profession’s commitment to the protection of nature and sustainable development.

Prof. Pantelić Babić added that the participation of school teachers of biology and ecology is important, as this gathering establishes a link between scientific research and education, encouraging critical thinking and the interest of new generations in science.

The dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, prof. Goran Trbić, PhD, also welcomed the participants, highlighting the significance of the institution as a centre of scientific and educational cooperation and research.

The symposium programme includes ten plenary lectures, eighty-four papers, as well as oral and poster presentations. The topics cover botany and plant physiology, zoology and animal physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology, microbiology, genetics and evolution, ecology and biodiversity protection, as well as environmental protection. All participants of the symposium will receive certificates.

A total of 146 participants and around 300 paper authors have registered, confirming the importance and the growing reputation of this scientific gathering in the region.
