Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of China visits the University

The rector of the University of Banja Luka, prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, met on 7 November 2025 with Wang Guofei, Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the meeting at the Rectorate, they discussed the existing cooperation between the University of Banja Luka and higher education institutions in the People’s Republic of China, as well as opportunities for its enhancement.

Rector Gajanin emphasised that, through the work of the Confucius Institute, the public in the Republic of Srpska has had the opportunity to become better acquainted with the rich Chinese culture and tradition, noting that the study of Sinology at the Faculty of Philology has reached become as popular as the other languages of the world being studied here.

“The University of Banja Luka participates in numerous international projects funded by the EU, as well as in several joint projects with partners from the PR China. In all these activities, our University has proven to be a reliable and responsible partner”, said rector Gajanin.

The vice-rector for international and inter-university cooperation, prof. Kristina Pantelić Babić, PhD, pointed out that the University of Banja Luka currently has 18 active cooperation agreements with Chinese universities, which demonstrates continuity and mutual interest in developing academic relations.

The Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the PR China, Wang Goufei, informed the University representatives about the adoption of the new Five-Year Development Plan in the PR China, which focuses, among other things, on further opening the education system to the world and strengthening international student exchange.

He expressed satisfaction with the existing cooperation with the University of Banja Luka and stated his expectation that, in addition to Sinology and medical sciences, cooperation will also be established in other scientific fields in the coming period.

Following the meeting at the Rectorate, the delegation of the Embassy of the PR China, headed by the Chargé d’affaires, visited the Confucius Institute of the University of Banja Luka.
