The UNIBL is celebrating a jubilee: 50 years of knowledge and science

For the occasion of half a century of successful work and existence of the University of Banja Luka (UNIBL), the leading higher education institution in the Republic of Srpska, a rich and eventful program has been prepared.

The University and its members have prepared a series of festivities, the most prominent one being the Solemn Academy, scheduled for Friday, 7 November, at 12.00 o’clock, in the Cultural Center “Banski Dvor”.

On the occasion of the half-century anniversary of the University of Banja Luka, there will be the unveiling of the Bust of the first Rector of the University, Prof. Dragomir Malić, PhD, in front of the Rectorate and Academy of Arts building, on Wednesday, 5 November, at 11.00 hours. On the next day, Thursday, 6 November, at 10.00 o’clock, there will be a commemoration service and laying of wreaths for the killed students and workers of the University, at the memorial plaque on a plateau between the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

The promotion of new doctors of science (PhDs) is scheduled for Tuesday, 11 November, at 10.00 o’clock in the Rectorate hall number 8. A conference dedicated to science at the University of Banja Luka will be held at the Student Cultural Center, on Friday, 14 November, at 10.00 o’clock. By the end of the month, from 27 to 29 November, a traditional student-technical conference, “Students Encounter Science” (StES) will be held.

By the calendar end of the year, several faculties will commemorate their anniversaries, there will be promotions for the graduates from the first and second cycles of studies, Scientific conferences will be organized, along with other cultural and educational events.

With this celebratory program, the University of Banja Luka and its members not only celebrate 50 years of existence but also display their lasting dedication to education, science, and culture, confirming their mission to remain the pillar of the academic community and the development of society.

The University of Banja Luka is a leading higher education institution in the Republic of Srpska and second second-largest university in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was established on 7 November 1975, and its foundation was preceded by the establishment of several faculties in this area. At the moment of establishment, there were five faculties - members of the University, while today, the University of Banja Luka, in its composition, has 16 faculties, the Academy of Art, and the Institute of Genetic Resources. 

In about 150 study programs in all three cycles of studies, some 15.000 students are educated, coming from all corners of the Republic of Srpska, but also from abroad. 

The University achieves European standards and contributes to the overall development of knowledge, improves the teaching process, and stimulates the society's development through science, research and internationalization, and innovations.
