Presentation of the earthquake simulation platform

University of Banja LukaGeneral-

A vibro-platform, i.e., a machine that enables simulation of an earthquake in controlled laboratory conditions, was presented at the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Geodesy of the University of Banja Luka (AGGF UNIBL), on 10 October 2025.

The author of this innovative project is Associate Professor Ognjen Mijatović, PhD, who designed and created a prototype of the original vibro-platform to facilitate a practical understanding and analysis of dynamic impacts on constructions.

In building constructions, the dynamic impact is one of the most complex aspects of calculations and analysis, especially when it comes to seismic impacts. This platform enables precise definition of oscillating amplitude (from 0 to 50 mm), and oscillation frequency (from 0 to 8,3 Hz), allowing simulation of different intensities of dynamic impact and monitoring the construction response.

The development and application of this device is a significant step towards a better understanding of construction’s behavior during an earthquake, and the practical connection of theoretical models with experimental results. This platform will be utilized for further explorations in the field of dynamic analysis of constructions and testing their resilience to seismic impacts, thereby enhancing the experimental base and research capacity of the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Geodesy.
