Workshop on Digital Twins in the Energy Sector
GeneralOn 6 June 2025, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Banja Luka hosted a workshop entitled “Needs and Benefits of Digital Twins in the Power Sector of Bosnia and Herzegovina” as part of the international project GoToTwin.
The GoToTwin project (Advancing Renewable Energy in the Adriatic-Ionian Region through the Use of Digital Twins) is being implemented under the Interreg IPA Adrion programme, with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering as one of the partner institutions.
The workshop brought together representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Mining of the Republic of Srpska, the companies Elektroprenos OP Banja Luka, Elektrokrajina, Hydropower Plants on the Vrbas, and MT-Komex from Banja Luka.
Participants were introduced to the concept of digital twins and the possibilities of their application in the energy sector, with particular reference to technical, legal, and regulatory aspects. Following the presentation of project activities, a constructive discussion was held on the integration of renewable energy sources and the challenges of digitalisation, during which key measures were identified for the successful implementation of this technology in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The aim of the GoToTwin project is to establish a transnational framework for the application of digital twins in the field of renewable energy, based on artificial intelligence and advanced analytics, in order to enable more efficient management of energy systems.
In addition to the University of Banja Luka, project partners include: Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in North Macedonia (coordinator), the Jožef Stefan Institute (Slovenia), the University of Western Macedonia (Greece), the University of Zagreb (Croatia), the Mihajlo Pupin Institute (Serbia), and the company Serafimoski Tek (North Macedonia).
