Marking of the Day of the Faculty of Mining

The Formal event on the occasion of the Day of the Faculty of Mining of the University of Banja Luka with the seat in Prijedor, was held on 12 May 2025 in the faculty premises.

Rector of the University of Banja Luka, Prof. Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, said that there are no unemployed graduate students from this higher education institution, and pointed out that this faculty educates the cadre in three study programs – Mining, Geology Engineering, and Environmental Protection Engineering.

He also said that the Design of the Center for Higher Education in Prijedor is about to be completed. It was initiated by the Faculty of Mining, University of Banja Luka, and the Ministry of scientific technological development and higher education of the Republic of Srpska, city of Prijedor, and the rector himself.

Gajanin added that it was planned for this center to house al the higher education institutions in Prijedor, as well as the student’s dormitory.

“I would like the 20th anniversary of the faculty of Mining to be marked in that Center”, said the rector.

The Dean of the Faculty of Mining, Prof. Svetlana Sredić, PhD, said that the first steps in establishing the Center for higher education in Prijedor was among the most significant activities in the past year.

“The feasibility study was completed, the city allocated a location and amended the regulatory planning”, said Prof. Sredić.

The Acting Head of the Department of Education, Health, Social Care, Pronatalist and Demographic Policy of the city of Prijedor, Olivera Brdar Mirković, said that the city recognizes the significance of the Faculty of Mining and the High Medical School as important higher education institutions.

The General Director of the “Arcelor Mittal “ mine in Prijedor, Mladen Jelača, pointed out that all mining engineers currently employed in this company completed their education at the faculty of Mining in Prijedor. He stressed that the company will continue to support the work of the Faculty.

During this formal event, the students who successfully completed their first and second cycle of study received their Diplomas.

The Faculty of Mining in Prijedor was established on 16 May 1997, as a department of the Faculty of Technology, and functions as an independent faculty within the University of Banja Luka since 2009.
