Two Legacies Opened at the Academy of Arts

University of Banja LukaGeneral

On 12 November 2019, Rector of the University of Banja Luka Professor Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, opened the legacies of the academic Professor Vojislav Korac, PhD, and the academic Professor Miljko Sindic, PhD.

Rector Gajanin said that the legacies located at the Academy of Arts are of great value.

„The legacy of the academic Korac contains over 1200 valuable monographs in Russian, Greek, Bulgarian, English, German, Italian and French, as well as some titles in Armenian, Georgian, Kyrgyz and Spanish. There are also over three hundred serials, many of which are from international scientific conferences, as well as many slides and photographs’’, Rector Gajanin said.

As for the legacy of Professor Sindic, Rector said that this legate contains over 400 publications of professional literature, over 600 publications of the native collection, over 50 special editions through which we can follow the development of the Academy of Arts at the University of Banja Luka.

„With the opening of these two legacies, the Academy of Arts and the University will be richer not only for the book fund collected by Academic Korac and Professor Sindic, but also for their knowledge and experience systematized in these two legacies, one from art history and the other from history and theories of literature'', Rector stressed.

Dean of the Academy of Arts Professor Sanda Dodik, PhD, said that students and professors of the Academy of Arts, Faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Philology and Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, as well as other students of the University, may benefit from the legacy.

She thanked Rector Gajanin and the rector's team and everyone who helped in having these two legacies at the Academy of Arts.

The academic Professor Miljko Sindic, PhD, said that the legacy was actually presenting his life.

"General literature is represented here, from the grammar school when we were writing and reading about Stalin, Lenin and Tito, to some of our writers from recent years, such as my student Milan Djida, who has already written two books of poems", Sindic said.

He said that there was a lot of interest in the library because, in addition to the professional literature that students may use, there were many native books, such as works by Petar Kocic or manuscripts from the 14th century.

"This is a place where books can be read and preserved not only for our but also for a future time", Sindic stressed.

The full-time professor of the Academy of Arts of the University of Banja Luka Ljiljana Sevo, PhD, and the academic Korac’s daughter Bojana Slavkovic gave a speech at the opening of the legacy.

The opening of the legacy was organized as a part of the events on the occasion of 44 years of successful work and development of the University of Banja Luka, and the event was attended by the Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in Banja Luka Vladimir Nikolic.
