Lecturer/Associate (practicals)
Prerequisite Form of prerequisites
No any.
Learning objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with modern work techniques in the establishment of intensive plantations of forest trees. Students should familiarize themselves with species, that is, their lower taxonomic units, methods of production of planting material, preparation of land for the establishment of plantations, and intensive measures of agrotechnics with the aim of maximum production of biomass.
Learning outcomes
Through classes and independent work, students should acquire knowledge about the possibilities and potentials of establishing plantations in our area. Students gain knowledge about the energy potential and production of wood biomass in plantations of short rotations, and about the principles and possibilities of establishing intensive plantations in a protective function. The acquired knowledge also relates to the contribution of paid forestry in environmental protection (phytoremediation).
Content
Lecture content: 1. Significance of establishing plantations; 2. Overview of the state of plantations in our country and around the world; 3. Selection of taxon (variety or clone) (mono- or polyclonal plantings); 4. Production and properties of planting material (type, age, quality, transplanting stress); 5. Preparation of the site for the establishment of plantations; 6. Density and method of planting; 7. Nurturing and maintenance of newly established plantations; 8. Bioenergy plantations; 9. Plantation forestry as a part of agroforestry; 10. Plantings in a protective function; 11. Plantations in the function of phytoremediation; 12. Preservation of genetic diversity and plantation forestry; 13. Socio-economic and ecological aspects of establishing plantations (CO2 uptake); Content of practical part: 1. Significance of plantation forestry; 2. Preparation of the habitat for raising plantations for a specific clone or variety; 3. Defining environmental conditions; 4. Selection of the type of planting material; 5. Planting methods and techniques; 6. Works after planting the plantation;
