Learning objectives
The objectives of this course are the following: gaining knowledge and skills for social work with people with disabilities Understanding theory concepts and its application through different therapy models used in social work with people with disabilities. Development of social perspectives in relation to disability; Thinking, acting and respecting the user's perspective of social work
Learning outcomes
After completing this course students will be able to: define the main aims in social work with people with disabilities; explain different types of disorders that cause disability and recognizing the characteristics; describe and explain the position of people with disability in a specific society; identify key elements for the individual social protection plan; assess the specifics and capacities of family with a person with disability; use knowledge regarding the legislation from different protection systems (social welfare, education, pension and health protection), in order to provide necessary support to people with disability and their families.
Content
Content of the course according to the weekly schedule covers the following topics: Legal Framework supporting people with disabilities; Contemporary models in social work with people with disabilities; The most important theory perspectives in social work with people with disabilities; Advocacy and self-advocacy as a model of social work with people with disabilities; Mental retardation (people with intellectual disabilities); Motoric disabilities - the role of social work; Hearing impairments - the role of social work; Sight impairments - the role of social work; Rehabilitation and employment of people with disabilities and the role of social work in process of rehabilitation and (re)integration.

Lectures and workshops include an interactive approach. Interactive work in groups. Using video materials and documentaries. Seminars from Readings. Written seminars/papers/assessments. Oral comments and short presentations during class. Consultations
