Learning objectives
Acquiring knowledge about road maintenance. Training for a systematic approach to the issue of road maintenance and the application of modern maintenance methods in practice.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to systematically approach the issue of road maintenance and to independently apply modern maintenance methods in practice.
Content
Road maintenance (definitions, goals and economic aspects). Types of road maintenance. Maintenance administration and management. Road maintenance management systems. Characteristics of road condition, types of damage, ways of collecting road data. Road damage catalog. Specifications of works. Types of damage and method of data collection. Assessment of the road condition based on the collected data. Visual assessment, condition assessment by measurement. Maintenance of flexible and rigid pavement structures. Road damage. Laws of damage development. Regular and intensified maintenance of flexible and rigid pavement structures as well as curtains made of unbound materials. Types of measures and works. Maintenance of drainage. Climatic influences. Winter road maintenance. Mechanization and maintenance materials. Maintenance of special constructions. Road equipment maintenance. Winter service plan. Protection against surface, groundwater and seepage water. Surface water drainage devices. Placental drainage devices. Impact of road maintenance on traffic safety. Rehabilitation and reconstruction of pavement structures. Measures to improve the load capacity of the road. Calculation of reinforcement of pavement structures. Deflections, deflection pool. Evaluation and grading
The student is obliged to attend classes and do and defend the annual task. Knowledge tests during the semester (colloquia) are not repeated. The final exam is held within the exam deadlines. For a student who did not attend the knowledge tests during the semester or did not achieve a passing result (at least 51% of the points provided for the knowledge test), as the first part of the final exam will be organized a knowledge test that he did not attend or did not pass. If a student has more than 3 absences he must re-enroll the subject
Specific remarks
The condition for taking the final exam is that the annual task has been done and defended.
