Learning objectives
Acquiring fundamental and improved knowledge in economic sociology, including social implications of economic dimensions of globalisation, along with understanding of significance of analysing social relations and economic interests.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to: 1. master the professional terminology necessary for further practical and applied training in the field of economic sociology. 2. master fundamental and developmental knowledge in economic sociology. 3. identifies, describes and analyzes problems related to society and social relations within the economic dimension, the relationship between basic social, political and economic institutions, cultural and economic processes, individual and organizational networking, socially and culturally conditioned inequalities in work, rest and consumption. 4. apply the acquired knowledge in a practical and effective analysis of phenomena related to the interconnectedness of society, economy and economic action.
Content
1. Introductory lesson. Presentation of the program, seminar topics, division of seminar duties. 2. Subject and problem areas of economic sociology. 3. Classic and new economic sociology. 4. Economic action and actors in the economic system. 5. The relationship between social and economic institutions, the state and the market. 6. Institutional changes in the process of post-socialist transformation. 7. Social networks - connecting social actors in the economic sphere. 8. Inter-organizational networks. 9. Culture and economy – processes of two-way determination. 10. Labor market and unemployment. Informal economy. 11. Financialization of social life. 12. Economic and social inequalities. Class, gender and other inequalities in material position. 13. Consumption, housework and free time. 14. Socio-economic strategies of households. 15. Determinants and indicators of sustainable development.
Teaching Methods
Lectures and exercises with interactive learning. Written seminar papers. Oral comments and short presentations in class. Consultations.
