Prerequisite Form of prerequisites
Railways passed exam
Learning objectives
Acquisition of necessary theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of railway design. Railway design is studied from the point of view of traffic, spatial, driving-dynamic, geometric, aesthetic, economic and ecological aspects, with detailed acquaintance with design methodology, in order to determine the optimal solution of the railway route.
Learning outcomes
Mastering the program contents of the course enables students to participate in the development of mutually conditioned and hierarchically arranged phases of railway projects that necessarily precede its construction: general, conceptual and main design, as well as a presentation of the project of the constructed facility.
Content
Railways and traffic. Current situation and development forecasts. Classification of railways and stations. Administrative division of railways. Classification of railway rolling stock. Performance indicators. Types and size of traffic. Train towing theory. Forces acting on a train. The basic equation of train motion. Stopping distance. Calculation of train mass, speed, driving time and energy consumption. Structural elements of the railway. Cross section profiles. Elements and criteria for dimensioning. Situational plan. Longitudinal profile. Level slopes and choice of relevant slope. Mitigation of grades in curves and tunnels. Railway elements in stations. Principles of route management. Classification of routes according to terrain relief. Railway design. Location and shape of stations and intersections on the route. Tunnels, viaducts and bridges as a means of guiding the route. Railway and environment. Reconstruction of railways. Increasing the capacity of existing railways. Reconstruction of plan and profile elements. Second track design.
