Learning objectives
The aim of this course is to get acquainted with the basic structural systems and materials. There will be talks about measures, spans, and design in structures. The ranges and possibilities of constructive shaping of modern masonry, reinforced concrete, metal and wooden constructions will be considered. Special attention will be paid to glass and geotextiles as well as new constructive materials, and modern achievements in the constructive design of such constructions will be pointed out.
Learning outcomes
Acquiring knowledge in the field of application of various structural systems in architecture and construction and new possibilities of construction with modern materials. Students will be able to analyze and interpret optimal solutions in the field of structural systems of high-rise buildings.
Content
Choice of constructive system. Load-bearing structure. Basic structural elements. Line carrier systems. Beam, column and tower systems. Spatial surface systems. Massive systems. Spatial lattice system. Wrinkled spatial-surface systems whose cross sections create straight lines. Curved fold systems. Shells. Two-way curved spatial-surface systems. Free forms of spatial surface systems. Dome systems. Hanging and hanging systems. Tent, mobile, pneumatic systems. Exercises: Systematic approach to the choice of constructive system according to the project task. Practical classes: The content of theoretical classes translated into practical application through exercises.
