University of Banja Luka Initiates the Opening of Sinology Study Program

Rector of the University of Banja Luka Professor Radoslav Gajanin, PhD, held a consultative meeting on 20 December 2019 at which it was decided to initiate the study program Sinology at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Banja Luka.

The meeting was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Philology Professor Petar Penda, PhD, Vice Dean for International Cooperation Professor Zeljka Babic, PhD, and Confucius Institute Home Director Ljiljana Stevic.

Rector appointed a task force to be in charge of preparing a survey or plan for this study program.

As said during the meeting, the plan will include experiences and best practices from the region as well as recommendations of the Chinese National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language and Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban).

The partner University of Technology and Education has made its capacities available and is expected to provide high-quality staff and Chinese language lectors.

The new study program is another step in the modernization of study programs at the University of Banja Luka, which will enable students to get employed faster and have a more promising future. It is expected that the first students of Sinology at the University of Banja Luka will be enrolled in the academic year 2021/22.
